Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit
Intoduction:
Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) was established in March, 2006 as a part of organizational set up in Irrigation Department to implement efficient and optimal canal operations oriented towards equity and transparency. The mandate of PMIU is to monitor the canal operations including discharge observations, calibrations of gauges, development of Irrigation Management Information System (IMIS), and Decision Support System (DSS). This unit is providing support to senior management of Irrigation Department to monitor the key indicators of the system operations for taking decisions regarding water distribution / scheduling to ensure equity and transparency in the system. With the passage of time, the unit was also assigned to check the water theft sites / outlets tempering incidents by surprise checking of the outlets for reporting to high-ups. This system is contributing significantly towards improved management with the objective of providing canal water to all farmers as per their entitlements with particular emphasis on mitigating suffering of tail end farmers.

Decision Support System DSS:
Decision Support System (DSS) was established in 2015 and attached with the PMIU to develop hydrological model for forecasting water availability during a cropping season, mapping fluctuations in water table and a hydraulic model of all Main and Branch Canals.
